Fertility Acupuncture

Chinese Medicine has a long history of helping couples  having difficulty with fertility. If you are one of the unfortunate people struggling to conceive, don’t give up hope yet! There are many simple things both women and men can do to improve their chances of conception.

Acupuncture by itself or in conjunction with IVF, IUI, and other western fertility treatments, improves the take home baby rate and should not be overlooked as an important part of increasing fertility, whether a couple is also seeing a Reproductive Endocrinologist or not. To read more about acupuncture for IVF and IUI see this link. However, I have helped many family’s conceive their first, second, or even third child naturally often without ever needing to see a Western fertility specialist.

I know, it seems like forever.

Most couples don’t realize that to get pregnant after only a few months is actually uncommon. It’s much more common for conception to take 6 months and even up to a year. You naturally have an 18% chance each month to conceive, but that is only if you are trying at the correct time. Ovulation usually happens around day 14 of your cycle but can vary considerably especially if a woman has other menstrual irregularities like cramping and clotting or irregular length of cycle. I wish I could count how many times I’ve treated a woman who felted pushed into doing IVF only to find she wasn’t even tracking her ovulation before seeing an RE! A couple isn’t technically infertile until after one year of trying to conceive naturally without success, but this time should be counted from when ovulation was tracked not when prophylactic use was stopped. Many couples start tracking ovulation or charting Basal Body Temperature BBT near the end of that year or just before they visit a reproductive endocrinologist. I’ve helped families conceive simply by adjusting when they check for ovulation because I’ve seen women ovulate as early as day 8 and as late as day 20.

What I do.

Acupuncture looks for different patterns of imbalance in a person’s body and brings them back into normal range. Many symptoms that woman see as normal such as PMS, cramping and clotting, are subtle signs of dysfunction in the reproductive system. We are taught that pain and moodiness around menses is just a part of life but Chinese Medicine sees them as a disharmony that no woman has to live with. They are however a sign of a deeper problem, and one that can cause delays with becoming pregnant. I use acupuncture and other therapies to help correct the signs of imbalance and improve the overall health of the man or woman being treated. This increases the chances of conceiving because the healthier your body is, the more it is ready to create more life instead of just sustaining your own.
